Italian American Civic League Utah Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Italian American Civic League
Founded in 1934, the Italian American Civic League (IACL) is a non-profit organization for Italian-Americans in the state of Utah that promotes civil, social, and educational growth. This scholarship is for Utah high school seniors of Italian descent who strive to promote these principles.
Eligibility
Both females and males are invited to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be of recent Italian ancestry
- Be a 2024 graduate of a Utah high school
- Be planning to matriculate as a degree-seeking student at any public or private higher education institution
Applying
Submit the following materials by the application deadline of March 31st, 2024:
- Application Form (see page 2)
- A Resumé emphasizing academic and extracurricular activities
- Essay 1: What are your future educational/career goals? (300 words max)
- Essay 2: Describe your Italian ancestry. How has your Italian ancestry influenced your life? (600 words max)
- Official High School Transcript with ACT and/or SAT Scores
Selection
Applications will be assessed and ranked based on the following:
- Extracurricular Activity Involvement (25%)
- Essays (25%)
- High School Academic Performance (40%)
- Involvement with an Italian Cultural Organization (10%)
Award
The scholarship award will be paid directly to the recipient for their use towards tuition, books, housing, and/or fees. Awards range from $1000 to $4000.
With scholarship acceptance and prior to receiving the award, the recipient agrees to submit a recent digital photograph and a short biography within 30 days. These items will be published in the program book for Festa Italiana, the Salt Lake City Italian Festival, and IACL publications.
Scholarships are awarded by both the Men’s and Women’s Chapters of the IACL. Applicants are encouraged to apply for both scholarships, but cannot receive both awards per the IACL bylaws.
