Hermine Tobolowsky Scholarship

Purpose and background
Established in 1995, this scholarship supports academically accomplished women who plan to pursue careers in law, public service, government, political science, or the study of women’s history. It is administered by the Texas Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, Inc.
Award
- Amount: $3,000 per year
- Payment: Scholarship funds are issued directly to the registrar’s office at the recipient’s accredited Texas college or university.
Eligibility
- Must be female.
- Must attend an accredited college or university in Texas.
- Must have completed a minimum of two semesters (college-level).
- Applicants may be previous recipients; past awardees are permitted to apply again.
Application deadline
- All application materials and supporting documents must be received by March 31.
Required materials (submit with your application)
- Certified transcripts covering all college coursework (to verify cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher).
- An essay, no longer than two pages, describing your financial need and addressing one of the following topics:
- The importance of women in the workforce
- The importance of women in public service (for example, law, political science)
- The value of studying women’s history
- Two letters of reference (examples: college professors, counselors, employers, or professional colleagues).
- The full name of your institution, your student ID number (for the scholarship check), and the mailing address where the check should be sent.
Selection criteria
- Applicants must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and provide certified transcripts.
- Selection is made on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.
- The essay and letters of reference will be considered in the final decision.
Conditions for recipients
- Scholarship payments are made directly to the recipient’s college/university registrar.
- The awarded student must provide the Texas Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, Inc. with a digital photograph for publication.
- During the award year, the recipient must submit at least one written message describing her college experience to the Foundation.
